Kennen Sie auch Leute, die zwar keine Kinder haben, dafür aber die besten Erziehungsratschläge? Ich kenne solche Leute. Und glauben Sie mir, ich habe deren vermeintlich gute Erziehungstipps echt satt.
Von besagten Leuten bekam ich Sätze zu hören wie: „Wenn das mein Kind wäre, würde ich ihm einfach mal einen Tag nichts zu essen geben.“ Oder: „Zu Essen gibt es eben nur das, was auf dem Tisch kommt.“ Beide Ratschläge bezogen sich auf das Thema „Mein Kind verweigert das Essen, das ich gerade auf den Tisch gestellt habe.“ Ein weiterer toller Ratschlag für nicht aufräumwillige Kinder ist folgender: „Wenn er keine Lust zum Aufräumen hat, würde ich sein ganzes Spielzeug einfach wegwerfen.“ Darüber kann ich nur müde lächeln. Denn Erziehung weicht in der Praxis vollkommen von der blanken Theorie ab.
Ich muss allerdings gestehen, dass ich, als ich noch kinderlos war, ebenfalls so „schlaue“ Weisheiten parat hatte. Die rieb ich vielleicht den Eltern nicht gleich auf die Nase, aber gedacht habe ich mir Derartiges allemal.
Heute bin ich schlauer. Erstens habe ich gelernt, dass ich Sanktionen, die ich meinem Kind androhe, unbedingt auch durchziehen muss. Ansonsten werde ich nicht mehr ernst genommen. Aber meinem Kind einen Tag nichts zu essen zu geben, käme einer Art Foltermethode gleich. Vielleicht nicht unbedingt für mein Kind, sondern vielmehr für mich. Und Spielzeug wegzuwerfen, das ich vorher teuer gekauft habe, ist auch nicht gerade der Königsweg. Zweitens käme ich mittlerweile mit den Sanktionen gar nicht mehr hinterher. Denn wenn ein Fünfjähriger so richtig in Fahrt ist, kommt man aus dem Erziehen den ganzen Tag gar nicht mehr heraus. Und schließlich muss es auch andere Möglichkeiten geben, um der Sache Herr zu werden.
Wie schwer Erziehung ist, habe ich mir in den kühnsten Träumen nicht ausmalen können. Es ist ein wahres Lebenswerk und erfordert höchste Präzision. Wie oft man sich dabei selbst überwinden, überdenken und immer wieder neu definieren muss, war mir nicht klar. Ich ziehe heute den Hut vor einer guten Freundin mit drei kleinen Kindern im nicht deutschsprachigen Ausland lebend, und einem Mann, der sehr viel auf Geschäftsreisen ist. Heute erst verstehe ich, welche Meisterleistung sie unter diesen Umständen vollbracht und ihre drei kleinen Kinder wirklich vorbildlich erzogen hat.
